Key fob battery

SInce buying my #1 in September, I have replaced the batteries in both key fobs 4 times!

Both batteries run out at the same time without warning. The manual state you should get a low battery warning - I don't. I have been caught out away from home where the key fob has stopped working and I've had to call Smart services to assist.

When not in use, both fobs are kept in a Faraday box.

Has anyone had similar problems?

I've had my #1 for nearly a year and a half now, and have only had to replace the battery in the primary keyfob twice. The second time just the other week. I did get a notification from the car to say the battery was running low. I have never had to replace the battery in the other keyfob, and I know it works because I used it when I took my car to Smart to get the door handles looked at (they need replacing).

It has always worried me about the battery failing when I'm out, so I keep a spare battery in the glovebox, just in case.

Me too. Keep a spare battery in the glovebox. I’ve never had a car that gets through batteries so quickly!

Not replaced my batteries in my keyfobs had it about 14 months, I use the car daily.

Since getting the car in Sept 2023, I've had to replace the fob batteries every three to four months. I've had a warning from the car on every occasion. I also carry spares in the car.

Booked into dealership - new keyfobs supplied. Watch and wait!

Useful tip. You can still drive the car with a dead fob key battery.

Unlock the car with your Smart phone App.
Place the dead key on the bottom of the central storage bin, right at the front.
You should then be able to put the car into drive and drive off.

Use 2032 H batteries they last longer

That's a good point. Not all 2032 batteries are necessarily created equal.

This is a really interesting thread, coz this morning one of my Smart #1 key fobs flashed up low battery on the driver display. The car is 15 months old but I’ve only had it for 3 days, so I haven’t got a clue how to get to the battery and can’t find it via a quick Google.

Any tips, guys?

SOLVED! The SMART face of the key fob unscrews with a slight turn CLOCKWISE (of all things).
