I'm now told I have to take it back to the service depot, but they only have one qualified engineer, so it will be mid November earliest.

Update on the above, I’ve fixed it now. Went back and activated all the online services options, gave it an hour and the app now shows my exact location and battery status. Looks like it was me all along.

In Bruges no longer!
Those nice people in MB Oxford (Tom and Mike) fixed the problem which apparently was due to an incomplete OTA upgrade some time ago.
